I've been trying to create the perfect sugar cookie for years....wanting soft and chewy with a bit of crisp around the edges...sweet but not sickeningly so..and with just a hint of salt. And this afternoon, I FINALLY figured it out! Try them and let me know what you think:)

Ingredients:
1 cup of soft butter (not melted)
1 cup sugar
1 Large Egg at room temperature 2 3/4 cups All-purpose flour
1/2 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp Baking soda
4 tbsp Brown sugar, lightly packed
1 cup Granulated sugar, plus more to roll cookies in
1/2 tsp Salt
2 tsp Vanilla extract
Directions:
Using a mixer on medium speed, cream together butter and sugars until smooth (about 5 minutes).
Add in the egg and beat until smooth.
Slowly add in the flour, baking soda, baking powdered mix until dough starts to come together.
Scoop the dough into balls (golf ball sized) and roll in granulated sugar. Bake for 9 minutes at 350°, the cookies will still be soft and won't look quite done. Remove from oven and drop on counter (I swear it matters!!!) and let cookies cool on the baking sheet for five minutes.
